Abuja Women Urban Coalition Holds Strategic Meeting on Housing Rights and Community Advocacy

The newly inaugurated Abuja Women Urban Coalition EXCO held a strategic engagement meeting at Hipcity Innovation Centre to deliberate on key issues affecting women and vulnerable communities across the Federal Capital Territory.

The meeting brought together coalition leaders and community coordinators to discuss institutional coordination, women’s housing rights, membership mobilisation, advocacy planning, financial accountability, and responses to demolition threats affecting communities such as Durumi IDP Camp and other informal settlements.

Discussions also focused on strengthening grassroots structures within indigenous and urban communities, expanding coalition membership, and improving collaboration among women leaders across the FCT. The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dignity, inclusion, empowerment, safety, and access to decent housing for women and vulnerable groups.

Key resolutions reached during the meeting included:

  • Expansion of membership registration and community coordination structures.
  • Plans for advocacy visits to government institutions and relevant agencies.
  • Strengthening media engagement and public awareness efforts.
  • Improved financial documentation and administrative coordination.
  • Scheduling of the Women’s Housing Workshop for June 2026.

The engagement further reinforced the coalition’s vision of building stronger community voices and promoting sustainable, people-centred responses to displacement, housing insecurity, and urban vulnerability in Abuja.
