The Nigerian Network of Parliamentary Monitoring Organizations (NNPMO), which HipCity Innovation Centre is a member has launched the POPULA 2.0 project to improve legislative openness.
Nigeria’s National Assembly rating in the continent with regards to “Open Parliament Index” ranks low in the areas of public accountability, civic participation and transparency.
In response to entrenching parliamentary accountability, representatives of Parliamentary Monitoring Organizations , Civil Society actors, Media professionals under a shared commitment gathered in Abuja to launch the project POPULA 2.0 – Promoting Open Parliament for Upscaling Legislative Accountability.
The project POPULA 2.0 hopes to facilitate citizen’s access to legislative information, build the capacity of parliamentary monitoring organizations to engage with legislators while also engaging with the national assembly to advance open parliament index (OPI) goals of transparency, participation, and accountability.
